English for Speakers of Other Languages

This program is for Adults aged 18 and older.

Description of this Class:

This is an integrated course focused on developing core language skills at the beginning level. Emphasis will be on survival speaking skills, real-life vocabulary, the three main verb tenses, and the integration of these skills:

  • Speaking

  • Conversation

By the end of the course, students will know how to give and follow simple instructions and how to participate in meaningful activities within and across cultures.  Students will be able to ask and answer questions about topics that are presented at a low beginning listening speed of below 130 words per minute.   Individual, partner, and group work, as well as Total Physical Response activities, will be used throughout the class, as well as oral presentations and listening assessments.

All ESOL students enrolled at Pasco Adult gain access to Burlington English. Burlington English is an online program that focuses on instruction for English language learners in four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The ESOL teachers use the program for face-to-face classroom activities. Students can use Burlington English anytime/anywhere to access online interactive English courses and improve their pronunciation and comprehensibility.
