English for Speakers of Other Languages
This program is for Adults aged 18 and older.
Description of this Class:
This is an integrated course focused on developing core language skills at the beginning level. Emphasis will be on survival speaking skills, real-life vocabulary, the three main verb tenses, and the integration of these skills:

By the end of the course, students will know how to give and follow simple instructions and how to participate in meaningful activities within and across cultures. Students will be able to ask and answer questions about topics that are presented at a low beginning listening speed of below 130 words per minute. Individual, partner, and group work, as well as Total Physical Response activities, will be used throughout the class, as well as oral presentations and listening assessments.
All ESOL students enrolled at Pasco Adult gain access to Burlington English. Burlington English is an online program that focuses on instruction for English language learners in four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The ESOL teachers use the program for face-to-face classroom activities. Students can use Burlington English anytime/anywhere to access online interactive English courses and improve their pronunciation and comprehensibility.

Mornings 8:30 am – 11:00 am
Afternoons 11:30 am – 2:00 pm
Tuesday and Thursday
Evenings 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Adult Education Attendance Policy
Full-time students (attending Monday through Friday daytime) missing 6 (six) consecutive days are automatically withdrawn from the program as mandated by the State of Florida Department of Education for Adult Education. Part-time students (attending Tuesday and Thursday evenings) missing 3 (three) consecutive days are automatically withdrawn. Students that have been withdrawn due to lack of attendance may request to return to class 1 (one) time during the semester, this return will be dependent upon availability in the class; if there is a waiting list, returning students will be placed at the end of the list.
ESOL Program Admission Requirements for Adult Education

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age for the ESOL programs.

Applicants must take a CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) placement test in Reading and Listening.
The enrollment process can be completed online or in our Adult Education office.

Complete the student application and pay the $31.20 non-refundable fee for your class. Payment is due at the time application is submitted and is non-refundable. The payment form is found at the end of the application.

A CASAS placement test is required for ESOL classes. There is a $12.50 scheduling and processing fee that must be made prior to scheduling your CASAS test. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. If you miss your testing appointment, you will be required to pay another non-refundable scheduling and processing fee. For the CASAS, students must be at least 18 years of age.

The TABE and CASAS tests are given at the Pearson Vue Assessment Center located at Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation located at 32555 Innovation Drive, Wesley Chapel, Florida 33545. Follow the signs for the Pearson Vue Assessment Center located at the front of the school. Check into the Assessment Center office with your government-issued ID (Required).

CASAS testing hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The test is approximately 2 hours.
The application includes a non-refundable payment fee of $31.20. The fee must be paid at the time of application submission.

All ESOL classes are full.
Currently, we have a waitlist of over 40 students.
We are not taking any more names for the waitlist at this time.
If your name is already on the waitlist, you will be called when there is an opening.
The Spring semester starts Tuesday, January 3, 2023, and ends May 26, 2023.
