Adult Education ABE/GED® Preparation Program

The Adult Education GED® Preparation program provides educational opportunities for individuals 18 and older wishing to take the GED® Examination. The program is offered during the morning, afternoon, evening, and online through Pasco Adult Education @Wesley Chapel. Classes provide instruction in the following GED® Test areas: Mathematics, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

 

ABE (Adult Basic Education) classes are provided for students needing to improve their Math, Reading, and Language Arts skills to the GED® level.

 

Online GED® classes offer students a flexible schedule to work towards their GED®. Online students will communicate regularly via email, text, telephone, and zoom with their instructor. 

*Online GED® students must have access to a computer with a high-speed Internet connection. Online students must meet a minimum level on the reading portion of the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education).  

 

Average Program Length

The length of the program varies with each student. Students are placed in classes determined by their Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) results. The length of the program is dependent on the student’s skill level and motivation. 

 

Admissions to Adult Education GED® Preparation Program

Students must be 18 years of age or older to enter the GED® program. New students are evaluated in basic skills of Reading, Mathematics, and Language Arts with a TABE test to determine proper educational placement in classes.

Underage GED® Preparation Program

The Underage GED® Preparation program provides educational opportunities for underage individuals ages 16 or 17 wishing to take the GED® Examination. Morning and afternoon classes are offered at Pasco Adult Education @Wesley Chapel with an online component completed at home. Classes provide instruction in the following GED® Test areas: Mathematics, Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. 

ABE (Adult Basic Education) classes are provided for students needing to improve their Math, Reading, and Language Arts skills to the GED® level.  

To test for the GED®, students ages 16 or 17 must meet specific program requirements to receive special permission to test on the GED®.

 

Admission to Underage GED® Preparation Program

Students must be 16 or 17 years of age.  Students enrolled in a Pasco County School must withdraw from their high school and enroll in Home Education to enter the Underage GED® Preparation program. New students are evaluated in basic skills of Reading, Mathematics, and Language with a TABE test to determine proper educational placement in classes. TABE: Test of Adult Basic Education

The first step to enroll in any of our GED® preparation programs is to take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). This test gives important information for placement purposes. The cost of the TABE is $12.50 and is scheduled online. After testing, each prospective student is encouraged to meet with the school counselor to discuss program options.  

 

GED® Tests Cost/Diploma/Graduation

Students successfully completing the GED® preparation program may apply to take the General Educational Development examination. The cost of the GED® is $32 per section. There are four sections: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics for a total of $128. Students successfully completing the examination are awarded the State of Florida high school diploma which is recognized nationally as the equivalent of a high school diploma. Graduation ceremonies are held twice a year in January and August.

 

Testing Location

The TABE tests are given at the Pearson Vue Assessment Center located at Kirkland Ranch Academy of Innovation located at 32555 Innovation Drive, Wesley Chapel, Florida 33545. Follow the signs for the Pearson Vue Assessment Center located at the front of the school. Check into the Assessment Center office with your government-issued ID (Required).  

 

 

 

 

Program Admission Requirements for Adult Education

 

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age for the GED® Preparation Program.

  • Applicants must be at least 16 and 17 years of age and enrolled in Home Education for the Underage GED® Program. 

  • Applicants must take a TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) placement test. 

 

The enrollment process can be completed online or in our Adult Education office.  Please refer to the steps below to aid in this process.

  • Complete the student application and pay the $31.20 non-refundable fee for your class. Payment is due at the time application is submitted and is non-refundable. The payment form is found at the end of the application.

  • The GED Preparation classes require a TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). There is a $12.50 scheduling and processing fee that must be made prior to scheduling your TABE test.  This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.  If you miss your testing appointment, you will be required to pay another non-refundable scheduling and processing fee. To take the TABE, students must be at least 16 years of age. The test is approximately 4 hours.

 

 

Adult Education Attendance Policy

Full-time students (attending Monday through Friday daytime) missing 6 (six) consecutive days are automatically withdrawn from the program as mandated by the State of Florida Department of Education for Adult Education. Part-time students (attending Tuesday and Thursday evenings) missing 3 (three) consecutive days are automatically withdrawn. Students that have been withdrawn due to lack of attendance may request to return to class 1 (one) time during the semester, this return will be dependent upon availability in the class; if there is a waiting list, returning students will be placed at the end of the list.  

 

 

 

The application includes a non-refundable payment fee of $31.20. The fee must be paid at the time of application submission.
